The possibilities are endless when thinking of what season four could possibly hold for Dexter. What will happen to Debra’s investigation into Harry’s past? Will she finally find out about Dexter and his relation to the Ice Truck Killer? Other theories circulating the interweb say that Cody starts showing signs of darkness and that Dexter helps him like Harry did. Perhaps it’s Astor who will wield the knife instead of her brother since she has been very quiet and distant in the past season, or maybe that’s just due to the fact that she’s entering the rebellious years of adolescence. But really, who knows if HBO would actually go as far as having kids killing on screen.
At the end of Dexter Season 3 a number of odd events took place, from the elimination of Miguel Prado to Dexter’s marriage to Rita, life seems to be looking of for Dexter as the only obstacles in front of him seem to be Rita, her children, and his future fatherhood. Though things seem to be going well season 3 left off with a few unanswered questions that give us some insight on what is in store for Dexter Season 4.
The first cliffhanger left unanswered are the secret marriages of Rita’s, played by Julie Benz, this realization of Dexter’s has left him wondering why she wouldn’t reveal this to him. At the finale it he said that everyone has “skeletons in their closet” and it was left at that, however it seems that this lie may become more significant in the coming season of Dexter.
Something even more likely to be of concern in season 4 is the blood stains that Dexter’s injury on his arm left on Rita’s dress when they had their first dance after becoming an officially married couple. This is something that will more than likely become a small if not major point of the plot of season 4 and it is going to be interesting to see how Dexter finds a way out of this problem, could he possibly use Rita’s secrets against her, or would this be a last ditch option?
I also suspect that the new season with go into more detail about the Quinn mystery, as Batista, played by David Zayas, discovers some unexpected things about Barbara. I also suspect that the writers may be planning a Masuka for a love in his future and that this will be something that goes into more detail as the season plays out.
And finally I suspect that Dexter season 4 is going to revolve at least somewhat around Debra attempting to discover who Harry was playing around with. At the conclusion of season 3 a picture of Dexter’s real mom was sitting on the desk of Debra’s, so this affair is clearly something that will soon be questioned. Could it be likely that she figures out that the killer Brian Moser is Dexter’s brother? This is something that is clearly of much significance, but I can’t say that this is something that will happen in season 4 as it is of very huge significance and may need to be played out. Will Debra side with Dexter as a loving sister or will other values cause her to oppose him? One thing is sure going against Dexter will result as a large problem for one of them. Could this happening mean the end of Dexter? I think not. It has already been announced, after being nominated for an Emmy, that Showtime will be picking up Dexter for at least an additional two seasons. Which means Dexter will be in action for quite some time.
One thing is for sure, with Dexter, always expect the unexpected.
